First Friday (Monthly): Free haircuts for Veterans – Centralia
There will be free haircuts for Veterans the first Friday of each month. It will be held at the American Legion Post 446, 117 South Poplar, Centralia from Noon to 3:00 p.m. Presented by American legion Post 446 & Kaskaskia College Cosmetology Department.

October 1: Flu Shot Clinic – Sandoval
The First National Bank of Sandoval in conjunction with Marion County Health Department will be sponsoring a flu shot clinic on Wednesday, October 1st from 9 a.m. until noon at The First National Bank of Sandoval, 302 N. Main Street in Sandoval. Those covered by Medicaid or Medicare Part B presenting their card will be free. All other will be $35.00. Another community service brought to you by The First National Bank of Sandoval and Marion County Health Department.
October 1: Flu Shots – Clinton County Health Department
The Cliton County health Department is offering flu shots beginning October 1st, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Health Department, 930A Fairfax Street in Carlyle. The cost of the vaccine is $30.00 for in-county residents and $35.00 for out-of-county. Senior citizens who are covered by Medicare Part B need to bring their cards and Medicare will then be billed. No appointments are necessary. Walk-ins only. Please call the Health Department at 594-2723 for any more information needed.
October 3: “Fall into the Arts” – Centralia
Save the date! The Centralia Cultural Society is holding “Fall Into the Arts” It will be from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 3rd. It will be held at the Community Arts Center 1250 E. Rexford in Centralia. There will be cocktails, soda, an assortment of appetizers, and a sampling of Tammy’s Famous Cheesecakes. For more information 532-2951.
October 3: 5th Annual Kingsmen Auto Club Cruise, Mt. Vernon
Rend Lake College Marketplace in Mt.Vernon from 6-9pm. This cruise will feature Chevrolet (’58 & newer) & Corvettes. Door prizes, 50/50 drawing, DJ Hot Rod Nights & more, call 244-7711 or 242-6279.
October 4: Fall Festival – Albers
St. Bernard’s Fall Festival Schedule will be held at Lehrter Park in Albers, IL. There will be Food (Burgers, Fries, Soda) served at 9:00 AM, Country Store from 11AM-6PM. Fall children’s activities and vendor fair at 11 AM, bags tourney from 1PM-6PM, Car, 4×4, Jeep & Tractor Show: 1:30 PM – 5:30 PM, Par 3 Challenge: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Pork Sausage Dinner/Sandwiches Available: 11:00 a.m., Beer & Wine Stand: 4:00 p.m.
October 4: Fish Fry Fundraiser- Mt. Vernon
4-7pm at Summersville Grade School. All You Can Eat Buffet prepared by Country Rhodes! $9 for adults/carryouts, $6 for children 12 & under.
October 4-5: Heritage Festival, Mt. Vernon
Jefferson County Historical Village, 10am-4pm both days. Free admission, donations are welcome!
The Village will host this annual festival featuring demonstrations and old-time crafters, as well as costumed docents providing tours. Food and drink will be available for sale and the event will include musical performances. Call 246-0033.
October 5: Fall Dance – Okawville
Okawville Community Club’s Fall Dance will be held on Sunday, October 5th. Music by the Heritage Band from 2:00 – 5:30 p.m. The admission for the dance is $5 per person or $10 per couple. There will be smoked pork chops, fish, side dishes, desserts, soda, tea, coffee, and beer will be sold. Serving will begin at 11 a.m.
October 10: Mouse Races – Centralia
Centralia V.F.W. Post 2055, Doors open at 6:30pm, Races start at 7. Admission is $5 per person. Entertainment will include mouse races, mouse roulette and a dice wheel. This is a fundraiser to help your local Veteran’s organization. The event is open to the public. The V.F.W. is at 1826 S.Pine st in Centralia.
October 10: Witches Brew – Mt. Vernon
Families are invited to a unique fun fall event in the sculpture park at Cedarhurst. Professional storyteller Bobby Norfolk will entertain different age groups on the back porch of the Mitchell Home with spooky and entertaining tales for all ages. Call 242-1236.
October 11: Christian BBQ – Mt. Vernon
4-7pm at Central Christian Church in Mt.Vernon. $10 donation for adults, $5 for children 10 & under, music provided by Central Christian Church Praise Team, silent auction too! Christian Counseling & Family Services is a non-profit agency, call 242-4185 ext 31 if you have questions.
October 11: Wiffle Ball Tourney & Home Run Derby – Centralia
Raccoon Grade School will host a home run derby and wiffleball tournament for all ages from 9AM until 5 PM. Just $5 for the home run derby. Wiffle Tourney is $40 per 5-person team or $10 per person. Call Stacie at (618) 335-7086.
October 11: Craft Show – Texico
Donoho Prairie Christian Church in Texico will have numerous crafts and baked goods for sale. Food will be served all day along with homemade cobblers and pie. 9AM-4PM.
October 11: Quarter Auction – Salem
St. Theresa Quarter Auction will be 5PM-11PM in the gym. 100 items will be auctioned off. All proceeds benefit the grade school. Raffles, concessions, adult beverages.
October 10-11, 17-18: JC Jets Haunted Fundraiser – Mt. Vernon
Lost Souls of Idlewood Bridge! 4 Nights Only! October 10, 11, 17 & 18. Ticket Sales Open at 6:30pm to 10:00pm and are $8, First Fright Starts at 7pm. Little Scare Both Saturday Afternoons 4pm-6pm only $2 per person.
Directions: Take Rt 37 North of Mt.Vernon about 5 miles, turn right on Old Salem Rd…continue north .5 to Idlewood Rd and turn right over the one lane wooden bridge, turn north in the 3rd drive. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
October 14: Country Western Dance – Salem
Woody & The Nighthawks – 7PM-10PM, Salem Activity Center. Potluck Dinner at 8:30. $5 admission.
October 17: The Happening: Oktoberfest Sculpture Walk, Mt. Vernon
Take a walk through the Sculpture Park at Cedarhurst stopping along the way to learn about different art sculptures and sample a variety of seasonal spirits. After the walk, gather on the museum’s back patio for live music, snacks and a cash bar. 7:30 PM. Must be 21 to attend, call 242-1236.
October 18: Trivia Contest – Sandoval
St. Lawrence Knights of Columbus Trivia Night at 7 PM. Cash prize for winning team. Team entry is $80 with up to 8 per team. Concessional available starting at 6PM. BBQ, nachos, chips, soda, beer.
October 18: Warrior Fest – Ina
Rend Lake College Campus, Ina
9am- Craft & Flea Market; 9am-Noon..Children’s activities will feature an open house, a petting zoo, inflatables and big trucks; 10am- Car Show in the east parking lot, registration is $10, dash plaques for the first 125 participants.
