    Granada Classic Kid’s Matinees:
    Free admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Showings at the Granada Theatre, North 9th Street, Mt. Vernon.

    First Friday (Monthly): Free haircuts for Veterans – Centralia
    There will be free haircuts for Veterans the first Friday of each month. It will be held at the American Legion Post 446, 117 South Poplar, Centralia from Noon to 3:00 p.m. Presented by American legion Post 446 & Kaskaskia College Cosmetology Department.

    Are you interested in becoming a foster parent or do you just want to learn more about the requirements?

    October 10-11, 17-18: JC Jets Haunted Fundraiser – Mt. Vernon
    Lost Souls of Idlewood Bridge! 4 Nights Only! October 10, 11, 17 & 18. Ticket Sales Open at 6:30pm to 10:00pm and are $8, First Fright Starts at 7pm. Little Scare Both Saturday Afternoons 4pm-6pm only $2 per person.

    Directions: Take Rt 37 North of Mt.Vernon about 5 miles, turn right on Old Salem Rd…continue north .5 to Idlewood Rd and turn right over the one lane wooden bridge, turn north in the 3rd drive. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

    October 14: Country Western Dance – Salem
    Woody & The Nighthawks – 7PM-10PM, Salem Activity Center. Potluck Dinner at 8:30. $5 admission.

    October 15-18: Book Sale – Odin

    The Odin Renewal and Development Council will hold a used book sale in the Activity Room of the Odin Library on Thurday, October 16, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Friday, October 17, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday, October 18, 8 a.m. – 2 pm. Hundreds of good, used books in all areas of interest have been donated since our last book sale. The money that is raised will be used for the continued renovation of the Sugg building and to fund future events/activities to benefit the residents of Odin. The library is located at 219 E.     October -November: Flu clinics – Clinton County

    The Clinton County Health Department will have flu shots available from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at all four remaining HSHS St. Joseph-Breese Health Fairs  - Wednesday, October 15th, at Germantown Legion on Tuesday, October 28th, at Carlyle KC, Tuesday, November 4th, at Trenton 1st United Methodist Church, and Friday, November 21st, at the hospital HealthPlex.

    October 17: The Happening: Oktoberfest Sculpture Walk, Mt. Vernon
    Take a walk through the Sculpture Park at Cedarhurst stopping along the way to learn about different art sculptures and sample a variety of seasonal spirits. After the walk, gather on the museum’s back patio for live music, snacks and a cash bar. 7:30 PM. Must be 21 to attend, call 242-1236.

    October 18: Trivia Contest – Sandoval
    St. Lawrence Knights of Columbus Trivia Night at 7 PM. Cash prize for winning team. Team entry is $80 with up to 8 per team. Concessional available starting at 6PM. BBQ, nachos, chips, soda, beer.

    October 18: Warrior Fest – Ina
    Rend Lake College Campus, Ina
    9am- Craft & Flea Market; 9am-Noon..Children’s activities will feature an open house, a petting zoo, inflatables and big trucks; 10am- Car Show in the east parking lot, registration is $10, dash plaques for the first 125 participants. Judging at 11am, trophies at 2pm. The Fall-themed event will also feature hay rides, video gaming, hand & chair massages, food and drinks. Call Erin at 437-5321 ext 1714 for more.

    October 18: Benefit – Radom

    There will be a benefit for Marion Szopinski on Saturday, October 18th. It will be held at the Malawy’s Tavern in Radom, IL. The fun will begin at 2 p.m. There will be a Bucket Raffle, 50/50, Flea Market. The live action starts at 6 p.m. There will be chili, hot dogs, polish sausage, and brats. The proceeds to help offset medical expenses & equipment. The entertainment will be donated by Rockin Rich.

    October 23-26: Rummage/Bake Sale – Breese
    There will be a rummage and bake sale at St. Dominic Parish, Parish Center in Breese on October 23, 24, 25, & 26.
    Thursday, October 23- 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
    Friday, October 24- 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    Saturday, October 25- 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (all items 1/2 price)
    Sunday, October 26- 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ($2 brown bag sale)
    Homemade baked goods and lunch available all 4 days.

    October 25: 5K Color Walk/Run for Alzheimer’s Awareness – Mt. Vernon
    Mt.Vernon Health Care Center’s 2nd Annual “Every Mile a Memory” 5K Color Walk/Run for Alzheimer’s Awareness. 8:30am Registration at Veteran’s Park in Mt.Vernon. Race begins at 9am for ages 12 & up, Kids race begins at 8:30am. Call 242-1064 for more information.

    October 25: Wild Bunch reunion – Centralia

    Corey Stevens & The Wild Bunch 45th Reunion will be held on Saturday, October 25th at the Centralia American Legion. Blues singer Corey Stevens will make a triumphant return to his hometown to perform at the “Wild Bunch” Reunion. Tickets are available at Straith’s Jewelry $15 in advance. There will only be 150 tickets to be sold.

    October 26: Kid’s Halloween Party – Mt. Vernon
    Jefferson County Historical Society from 1:30-3:30pm. Any child age 5 & up, admission is $5.  Sure to be a good time! Making Halloween Crafts, Playing Halloween Games and making Halloween Snacks. Space is limited call 246-0033.

    October 26: Chicken and Pork Roast Dinner – Germantown

    The Germantown American Legion will be holding a Chicken and Pork Roast Dinner on Sunday, October 26th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be a dance with music by the Renditions starting at 2 p.m.

    October 31-November 1: Indian Artifact Show – Effingham

    Salem Moose Lodge, 2PM-11PM. Accepting any donations to help with medical expenses.

    November 6: Pray Centralia Event – Centralia
    Community Prayer event at Greenview Christian Church in Centralia. Multi-denominational event featuring multiple pastors and music.  Child care available.

    November 8: St. Theresa Turkey Trot 5K/Run Walk – Salem
    Bryan Memorial Park, Salem. Free goodie bag to first 200 participants that bring a non-perishable food item.

    November 8: Fundraiser for Friends of Murray Center – Beckemeyer
    ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BUFFET of Walleye, Smoked Pulled Pork, Chicken Strips, Mini Shrimp & sides. The event will be from 4-7 pm on Saturday, November 8th, 2014 at Buxton’s Banquet Center in Beckemeyer, IL. Tickets are just $9 for adults & carryouts and $6 for children 12 & under. Come support the Friends of Murray Center and enjoy an incredible meal!

    November 8: 239th Marine Corps Ball – Franklin County
    Rend Lake Resort…Social hour at 6pm, Ceremony at 7pm. Dinner shortly after. Tickets are $25 or $40 a pair. There will also be a silent auction and various raffles and giveaways.

    November 8: Friends of Murray Center fundraiser – Beckemeyer

    Come out to our fundraiser on Saturday, November 8th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the Friends of Murray Center. It will be held at the Buxton’s Banquet Center located at 191 Railroad St. Beckemeyer, IL 62219. Don’t miss out on the all you can eat buffet prepared by County Rhodes! There will be Walleye, Smoked Pulled Pork, Chicken Strips & Mini Shrimp, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Applesauce, Baked Beans, Steak Fries, & Drinks. Just $9.00 for adults/ carry outs & $6.00 for children. Come support the Friends of Murray Center and enjoy an incredible meal!

    November 15: Turkey Trot 5K – Mt. Vernon
    Check in at 7am at the UMCH Main campus in Mt.Vernon, race at 8am. All proceeds benefit the United Methodist Children’s Home, call 242-1070.
