May 8

The 2015 “Old King Coal Job & College Fair” will be held from 10am until 2pm at the KC Hall in West Frankfort. Admission is free, and there will be workshops on resume writing and interview tips from 10:30am until 1pm. May 9

A Fundraiser for Gavin Acosta will be held at the Iron Horse in Sesser from 2pm until midnight! There will be a Dunk Tank, food and drinks,  a free concert featuring local bands “The Handsome Devils” and “The Unknown” as well as a raffle with great prizes and free swimming, washers and bags! The proceeds will benefit Gavin Acosta, who has been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy.

May 11

The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois’ 26th Annual Girl Scout Golf Classic will be held at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois. Cost is $175 per player, $700 for a team.  There are also many golf activities planned including a Beat the Pro challenge, 50/50 drawing, longest drive contests and mulligans. To register to play, to become a golf tournament sponsor or for more information, contact Emily Kimmey in Fund Development at 800.345.6858 or e-mail her at ekimmey@gsofsi.org. For more information, visit the GSSI website at www.gsofsi.org.

May 13

BNI W.I.N (Wealth in Networking) will be holding a Business Networking Event in Carbondale from 8 to 10am at the Carbondale Civic Center! Guests attending will have the unique opportunity to learn more about BNI’s business model of success, and make connections with local business owners, professionals and decision makers! May 15 and 16

The 3rd Annual “Lusk Creek Festival and BBQ Cookoff” will be held in Golcanda. There will be food, music, horse and buggy rides, and a kids play area along with the two day BBQ competition! Proceeds will benefit the Pope County Historical Society.

May 30

The Laborers of Illinois’ Second Annual Scavenger Hunt will be held starting at 10am. Sign up will be held at Black Diamond Harley Davidson, where there will be food, a live auction and a DJ! Donations are $20 for a single rider and $25 per couple. Proceeds go to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

June 10

The 25th Annual “Chuck Garnati Golf Day” will be held at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Energy. Registration opens at 8am and the 18 hole scramble beings at 10am sharp! The entry fee is $75 per player or $450 for a full 6 player team, and includes 18-holes, a cart, lunch and lots of great prizes! All proceeds from the event go towards local programs for abused and neglected children.  Flyers and signup sheets will be available at the Williamson County Courthouse and at several other locations. Space is limited, so you’ll want to sign up early!

 

Carbondale Boys and Girls Club Summer Programs

The Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale summer program registration is open! This summer’s programs will focus on music around the world and in nature. There will be 8 weeks of camps.  We have programming available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Our morning program (Sunrise Club) is from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and breakfast and lunch is included. Fees for the morning programs are $35.00 per week. Morning programs include Math, Reading and Cultural Experiences. Morning programs are limited to youth in Kindergarten (Must be 6 years old) through youth entering 6th grade. In order to measure summer learning we will be conducting pre and post assessments in reading and math.  The afternoon program (Siesta Club) is from 12:00 to 5:00 PM, lunch is included.  The afternoon program will include team building/leadership, art, cultural experiences, and sports/fitness rotations. Membership for both the morning and afternoon programs is required. The membership fee is $10.00 for the summer or $18.00 for a year.  Membership is the only fee for the Siesta Club. Below is a list of the summer programs. There will be special programs in the afternoon geared specifically for middle and high school youth.
