March is Red Cross Month, and with that, there are several upcoming blood drives in the area. Blood donors are everyday heroes who help save lives. March is Red Cross Month, and the American Red Cross recognizes donors and encourages others to join its team. Since Red Cross Month was first proclaimed in 1943, every U.S. president has called on the nation to support the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross.
The local blood drives include:
March 12 from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Illinois Department of Transportation, 2801 West Murphysboro Road in Carbondale, Ill.
March 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Trico High School, Highway 4, Box 220 in Campbell Hill, Ill.
March 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Illinois Star Centre, 3000 West DeYoung St. in Marion, Ill.

All You Can Eat Lenten Fish Fry at the Knights of Columbus Hall Every Friday from 4:30 to 7pm. Adults $11, Seniors $10, and Children $6 for a full course meal, drink and dessert.
Nifty 50′s event will be held at the Marion KC hall from 10am until 5pm. Food, raffle, face paintings for kids, shopping with vendors, balloon twisting, music, pet photo contest, lots more. Free addmission. Open to public. Part of proceeds will go to Wounded Warrior’s.
McLeansoboro American Legion Fish Fry to help fund the American Legion Boys Baseball team will be held from 5pm until 8pm at the Legion Hall in McLeansboro. Donations will be $9.
The Annual Pregnancy Matters Walk will be held at the Illinois Star Centre Mall in Marion. Breakfast and registration begin at 8am. Prizes, food, music, and much more provided! Individual and group winners will be announced at9:30am. All funds raised help more than 1200 women and families throughout southern Illinois each year. The Science Center Kids Walk will be held in the University Mall from 8:30-10 am with walker registration/check in from 7:30-8:30. The walk encourages children and adults to “get out and walk” while supporting the Science Center of Southern Illinois. Each walker who registers before March 5 will receive a t-shirt and packet . Registration is $8 for children under 14, $12 for adults, and/or walkers can obtain pledges for their one-mile laps around the inside perimeter of the mall. Registration on the day of the walk will be $10/$14. Pre-registration materials and pledge forms for the walk can be obtained from the Science Center, or at their website online at yoursciencecenter.org.
